In Search of Being

Once upon a time, there was a being, a being so powerful, wise and strong that it never died, was never born, and existed for all time and across all space. This being, since it never died, was able to live in all times and places, at once, or singly if it so chose to do so. The supreme being was the only one of its kind in existence, however, and this made the supreme being lonely. For it could also imagine what was not, and cause what was not, to become what was.

The supreme being was pondering its own existence, and how lonely it was, since the being could imaging what it might be like if there were more of its type around. “It would be possible for me to not know everything ahead of time!” the being thought to itself. At first, this was a frightening thought, since the supreme being knew everything there was to be known, across all time and space. But the more it thought about this idea that there might be something new that even it couldn’t think of ahead of time intrigued the being so much, that it kept studying and studying the question.

Now the supreme being could simply create what was not and turn it into what was. So, this being decided to bring forth other beings. In doing so, it also created space for the being to exist in, and created certain ways in which that space worked. The supreme being was quite intrigued by this creation, and set about to watch it grow.

Throughout space that the supreme being created, there were many new beings emerging. Some were very, very primitive, some were very complex. All, however, served a purpose in making the space where these new beings emerged a healthy, viable and supportive space.

Eventually, some of the new beings began to develop a collective thinking ability, that resulted in patterns that the supreme being recognized. These were patterns of a sort which enabled the being to think of things which were not. The supreme being recognized this as the same pattern it had begun to think, back before it had created the space. This was the pattern that lead to thinking of what could be, what might be, and to begin searching for ways to bring what was not into being.

This fascinated the supreme being to no end, as it began to see the possibility for other beings like himself become a possibility, and the possibility that there might begin to exist things which the supreme being had not known of before. As various beings began to form patterns of thought about creating new things, imagining other possibilities, and sharing those possibilities with each other, the supreme being wanted to share with these beings. To do so, however, the supreme being needed a way of relating to these other beings, in a way that would let it be able to communicate with them.

On a small planet, circling a small star at the edge of a minor galaxy, there was one such set of beings, only one out a vast array of beings throughout the whole of time and space. This group was not remarkable from the others that had attained the ability to think of things which were not, but the supreme being was interested in all such beings, so it wanted to relate to these particular beings.

On this planet the supreme being noticed that these particular beings used a form of communication that involved sound, images, gestures, and behaviors, much like the other creatures. As it became familiar with the particular forms of communication, the supreme being started to introduce itself to these beings. As these beings shared more knowledge, understanding, stories and ideas, the supreme being noticed in them the starting of a collective consciousness. This consciousness was very, very weak compared to the supreme being’s, but it saw this as the beginning of the way to becoming just like the supreme being. Whenever the consciousness was shared and mingled, it grew stronger and stronger.

At the same time, the supreme being noticed that if the beings did not share, or refused to communicate with others of their kind, the consciousness seemed to evaporate. The supreme being knew that some day, the beings would become something which they were not today, and that it so wanted them to become that. However, if the beings did not continue to share communication, the beings would not evolve to that point.

As the space the supreme being created grew, and the beings within that space grew and evolved, the supreme being knew that if it were to have a companion, another being like itself, that would be able to know all things across all space and time, and to think of that which was not and bring it into existence, the supreme being must also give up something of its own ability and power. It had to willfully set aside some of its ability to control and direct the being in the space it created. For to control and direct them would mean the beings would only evolve to a point and wouldn’t be able to evolve beyond the supreme being’s ability to control and direct.

So the supreme being looked at these particular creatures, and saw that there were ways it could influence their actions and behavior, but it chose not to interfere. Here, in this group, as in countless other beings across time and space, were the beginnings of wisdom. The supreme being knew that these beings must be allowed to create their own existence, in order to learn how to create that which is not.
